Born 17th April 1920,(Gravesend Q2-1920 2A:1493), the son of Arthur and Rose Eva Hilton FRANKLIN (née NIBLETT)
Husband of Lilian Maud CROWE (M.1941). Her address given on probate of his will was 51 Eriswell Road, Lakenheath.

In the 1939 register his mother [28-9-1894](recorded as married still) was living in High Street, Lakenheath with his sister Dorothy (16-9-1926) later to be Mrs LANE. They were with newsagent/greengrocer William LEADER and his wife Florence. There are 5 closed records. His father has not been identified in the 1939 register.

His younger brother Kenneth also died in the Far East :- see here

Charles was captured on 20th March 1942. His unit is not known but many RAF personnel in the Far East had been withdrawn to Java. He was held in Java, Singapore then Hokkaido (Hakodate) where he died.
His burial urn was initially in the British Mausoleum in Yokohama but moved the Yokohama War Cemetery in 1946.
